Lotus HVM Racing Finishes 23rd at Mid-Ohio

Lexington, OH (Sunday, August 05, 2012) - Things were looking up for the Lotus HVM Racing team this morning. The rain came and the driver of the #78 Nuclear Clean Air Energy car made the most of it. Swiss driver Simona De Silvestro posted the fourth-fastest time (01:34.8087) on the wet surface and looked good for today's race. Unfortunately for her, not only did the track dry, it was a completely green-flag race for the second race in a row limiting strategy options for the team.
"It's really disappointing," De Silvestro said. "We weren't able to use the strategy that we wanted because there weren't any yellows. It doesn't matter how hard I drive, without a yellow we can't get anywhere. We have low fuel mileage and we're down on power, so we're not competitive right now. The team is doing their best, but we're just not in a good situation."
Technical director Tom Brown was disappointed with the lack of strategy options. "Just another tough one with it going green all the way," he said. "We tried to pull some strategy, but we needed the yellows to pull it off. Strategy is one of the few tools we have in the bag and we can't use it. But, it is good to see green-flag racing all the way. Hopefully one of these days we'll get what we need."
Shane Seneviratne looked for the bright spot as well. "The biggest positive - we finished the race," he said. "We have to figure out the situation here and try to sort out things to get some power behind Simona. We need to try and make something happen during the race. When the race goes green to green we are just stuck in one position and there is nothing we can do; there is no strategy, nothing we could do to improve. We were stuck in one spot. Glad at least reliability-wise we finished the race."
The team has a couple of weeks back in Indy before heading to Northern California for the GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma on August 26th. The race will air on NBC Sports Network at 4:30 p.m. ET.
